The Flipped Learning Model - Is Ticket to Increased Student Learning?

Instructors are continually seeking ways to enhance student performance—both conventionally and as part of so-called “modern skills,” such as collaboration, communication and the capability to problem-solve. In a latest study, Flipped Classrooms, Eighty one percent of faculty surveyed said that enhanced mastery of information — including these “modern skills” — were the top student advantage of implementing the flipped classroom.

Fifth grade class student more interested and excited about science in general, compared to college students. For several reasons, sometime between college and elementary school, students seem to lose the interest factor. Flipping the classroom gives an avenue to ask the “why” questions again, rather than just provide content to students and have them spit it back out in their lecture notes.

Research has revealed that instant feedback as well as peer-to-peer commitment helps develop student comprehension. Expertsminds allows faculty to get real-time responses to open-ended or critical thinking problems, find which areas need further explanation, and then automatically group students for problem solving and more discussion.

Is the Flipped Learning Model Right?

The major hurdle to adapting to the flipped teaching model is evaluating the time to put the most effective content together. Many tutors have been lecturing for several years, and we have assignment and lecture materials that we are used to using. It is simple to get fixed going through the motions, “not thoughts” about what you are actually teaching, but you need to correct and have the restraint to be efficient at tutoring in a digital format. Teachers require reinvesting their time into teaching well.

The more you like the flipped classroom model — or actually any learning model — to be successful, the more job you have to put into it. Before any tutor makes the move from conventional teaching, they must ask themselves a few things. Am I seeking less work? Do I want a shortcut to tutoring? If that is the instance, you will not want to make the change, because the aim of the flipped classroom is to empower students to work tougher and not cut corners to add to achievement.

For students starting a flipped classroom initially, they should realize that just as with life, cutting corners does not result in enhanced outcomes. The similar students that resist because they don’t do the work in the conventional model of tutoring will also resist in a flipped classroom model. Students that start a flipped classroom initially should need that just as they would in a conventional class, they will need to do the homework’s to do well in the grade class and not depend on Google for searching answers.

Getting Started with the Flipped Classroom

Flipping the classroom gets you back to being a fresher instructor; you must reconstruct lecture notes, and select new pre- and post-lecture homework. The simplest, but probably not the most efficient, way to get started with dropping your toes into the flipped classroom is to just digitize your present lecture notes. That is how tutor started a flipping classroom initially, but after that working on figuring out how to prepare content more attractive and interactive for students.

The good way to get started is to start small. Start with the basic concepts that you know best and that students are stressed with and try to lecture it a in a different way; then just flip those ideas. This will permit you the time to regulate, review the efficiency, and see if you like the flipping classroom model before designing or re- designing the entire class this way. If you take that it works well, you will start building year to year. It is truly a long-term solution, not a quick fix. The most vital thing is to ensure whatever tutoring method you select works well for your behavior and your style of instruction.

Some tutors are gradually moving toward the flipping classroom model, but logically have many problems and hesitancy before coming completely on board. This process of tutoring is growing at a time when technology keeps developing.
