Whether you are studying for a main exam or working on a project
or research paper, you know what you be supposed to be doing, right? You should
be concentrating deep in a book somewhere quiet, with nothing to lure you into
heading out for a gaming break or midnight snack.
But then your friend comes in with a plan or a pizza to do
something way more amusing than your work, and it’s over. Or maybe your roommate
is studying hard and conscientious, too but that tapping of her pencil is going
to drive you insane.
There are thousands of study distractions that will distract
you from study. When you are in trouble to handles those distractions, try
these awesome tips for how to concentrate on studies or research even when you
don’t want to.
1. Try not to become Multitasker
Studies denote that trying to multitask, texting and
listening to music while making dinner and doing some online research, it
really lowers your IQ and makes the outcomes worst.
To thrash the temptation to do various things at once, try to
concentrate on your studies. Have just that one book at a time open on your
desk, and when you find your mind nomadic, tenderly remind yourself that the
only one thing going on in your life right now is that book or research. As like
meditation, this level of mindfulness takes some practice, but it will get you freeze
in your task.
Occasionally this looks easier to say but hard to do, particularly
if you have friends or mates who are on different time table and study
schedules. You can go to your school library, if you need a quiet place to
study. They may have study rooms or some quiet place where no talking is
allowed that will cater particularly to your focusing needs.
2. Block Your Notifications
All those supportive pings and dings and buzzers and banners?
They’re killing your attention. Every time you mobile make a sound that makes
your easily shift away from your work, it takes some time to get settle or get back
into the groove. Multiply that by hundreds of emails and texts and you’ve got a
big problem. Here’s how to handle it:
Turn off your mobile notifications. You do not need sound or
a badge to pop up for each and every little post on Snapchat, Facebook and
Instagram. Shut down your social media notifications both sound and visuals on
your study hours and check it when you are done studying.
Try a silent your phone. Make your phone into silent mode,
and you will never be sporadic again. If you’re concerned about missing a
important call, put dad, mom, and maybe your roommate on a recognizable
ringtone so you’ll get the important message. Everyone else can wait.
Plan your email time. Do not leave your email open in the
background of your laptop or in mobile do not synchronize your mail box you will
be distracted every time one pops up. As an alternative, plan your email timing
during the day (perhaps during meal times and before bed), and only open it
then.
Plan your phone times. Does your friends and family seem to
call at the nastiest times? When you know you have to set aside some study
time, be sure to call your parents and friends beforehand to catch up and make sure
to tell them that you might be incommunicado for the next few days. They will realize
and will probably be glad that you are extremely committed to studies!
3. Just Say No in elegant way
If you are an extrovert who thrives on social network or contact,
your major distraction is likely to be the friends or people around you.
Getting on board with the earlier suggestions should help, but sometimes you
need a way to (elegantly) avoid these friends and people while you get down working.
Noise canceling headphones will be a great,
non-confrontational way to manage. When you wear them, most people will know
the visual signal you are giving as, I’m busy and leave you alone. If they try
to talk to you, avoid eye contact that way you show that you did not hear them.
If you extremely must stop to speak to somebody, practice
saying, “Could we talk later? I have an exam tomorrow.” It’s good to be polite,
sweet and short and just use it in right way, before you get trapped in a
conversation.
4. Always Remember Your Goals!
Sometimes a slight reminder of the “why” can go an extensive
way. Short term or Long term, the pie at the end of the stick will be a great
motivator. Worried for summer break? Or do you get motivated from your future career
goals? Either way, takes a step to remind yourself of these goals before you start
your study.
Being in the exact mindset will make those interruptions
seem a lot less important. Eyes on the prize!
With these tips you will get down to business more easily,
and when you apply these you will be able to stay calm and focused for longer
periods of time. Best of all, by the end of the year or semester, your marks
will look great.
