1.      Function of ministry of environment and forests (M.O.E.F.)
(a)         Promoting environment education, awareness and training.
(b)         Environment policy, planning and research.
(c)          Environment clearance for projects.
(d)         Forest conservation and wild life protection.
(e)         Coordination with national and international agencies.
2.      Function of central pollution control board (C.P.C.B.)
(a)                To organize comprehensive programmes for pollution control through

(b)To establish laboratory for analysis of water sample from different areas.
(c)   To prepare different  manuals eg:
(i)                 Solid waste management.
(ii)               Water supply
(iii)             Waste water treatment
(d) To prepare different codes for treatment and disposal of waste.
(e)        Lay down standard for wells and streams.
3.      Function of state pollution control board (S.P.C.B.)
(a)        To collaborate with central board  for training ,pollution programme, education
      programme.
(b) Establishing laboratories for analysis of sample.
(c)         Inspecting the effluents and waste plants and prescribing the limit.
(d)        Prevention and control of pollution of stream and wells.
(e)        Prevention and control of discharge of waste into streams and wells.
